Help Build Tenashie School's Creative Space & Library

Organization name: Ako Adjei Lit Up

Ako Adjei Lit Up is an annual entertainment festival that transforms the typical street carnival experience into a vibrant celebration of Ghanaian culture, community and creative excellence.

Every year the Festival connects community members, talented creators, local businesses, development organizations and creative arts enthusiasts in Osu, Accra’s renowned entertainment hub.

AALU 2026 will bring people together to party with a purpose. Through a partnership with Mayekoo, Ako Adjei Lit Up is supporting the Tenashie School Complex to upgrade its library and creative centre to serve children in the Osu community.

These elements and more, align seamlessly to deliver a refreshing and unforgettable experience for both attendees and stakeholders.

The Challenges

We are raising $20,000 to outfit a dedicated library and creative hub at Tenashie Primary School. In addition to this, the funds will be used to facilitate a year-round learning program for the school’s students called the AWO Art Club.

Youth programs initiated by non-profit campaigns are essential in improving access to forward thinking, holistic education. However, these programs and related efforts in Ghana often stall after launch and are not sustainable. The real challenge isn't a lack of interest from the children; but:

  • Limited access to conducive spaces and conditions for effective learning

  • Inadequate learning materials and supplies

  • Inconsistent educational programming

A child grows accustomed to assuming  that opportunities to learn are temporary and being creative is challenging.

Solution

Ako Adjei Lit Up is the main vehicle for raising the funds needed for the Tenashie Creative Library Project. Furthermore, the AWO World Foundation will leverage its network of artists and creative professionals to facilitate the AWO Art Club that will serve Tenashe school students within the Creative Library.

Your contribution directly funds a reliable, permanent ecosystem built on three critical pillars:

  1. The Physical Space: We are outfitting the dedicated creative room and library at Tenashie built previously by Mayekoo Impact. This will give the students access to a dedicated room properly adapted for learning. This will turn learning from a casual activity into a permanent anchor the children can count on.

  2. Learning Materials: Funds will secure sturdy shelving, a growing inventory of borrowable books, high-quality art supplies stocked for the entire academic year, and secure storage for tools needed by the environmental club to run neighborhood cleanups.

  3. Weekly Learning Programming: The Awo Art Club will be a weekly learning program for the students and community children. Consistency enhances behavior. A child who knows an art club meeting happens every week becomes more invested in it.

AWO uses the arts and experiential learning methods to help equip the next generation of leaders and change makers. Training children in applied arts and creative facilitation empowers them and enables them to to build their own creative or social enterprises.

By the end of the AWO Art Club sessions participating students will be able to:

- Outline the rights and responsibilities of children in society

- Use art to express values, views and opinions

- Identify and explain the environmental challenges affecting their immediate community

- Make impactful art and products from waste materials

- Collaborate to create an exhibition and showcase for the Ako Adjei Lit Up Festival

The Festival will also promote the importance of social impact programs and creative arts. Select students from Tenashe School who are part of the AWO Art club will launch proceedings of the Ako Adjei Lit Up Festival with a creative showcase. They will exhibit what they have made and learned during the program. This gives the students an opportunity to build valuable skills and confidence and will also give donors a real sense of the social impact of their contributions

Every dollar given stays entirely within this neighborhood, investing in a creative sanctuary that these children will use every single week for years to come. Please give what you can to help them party with a purpose.
