From beach cleanups to clean water projects, volunteers power Mayekoo's work on the ground — and behind the scenes. Whether you're in Accra or anywhere in the world, there's a place for you.
Two ways to join
Join recurring beach cleanups, clean water projects, and menstrual hygiene education programs alongside Mayekoo's team and local partners. Most field activities are currently in Ghana, with projects in Kenya — and future opportunities across Africa. Individuals are welcome; you don't need to come through a group.
Research, content development, design, photography, videography, translation, campaign support, donor outreach, digital advocacy, and social media. If you have a skill and a few hours, there's real work for it.
The work
Field roles
Join a scheduled cleanup at an active site like Labadi, Nungua, or Chorkor. A few hours, no experience needed, equipment provided. Orientation before every field activity.
Support well and borehole projects, and WASH facilities in schools and public spaces — including sanitation points at beach sites. From site activities to documentation and community engagement.
Help renovate and construct classrooms and school infrastructure alongside local crews. Hands-on roles for all skill levels — from painting and finishing to skilled trades if you have them.
Help deliver dignity-centered menstrual health education in schools, alongside trained facilitators. Identity check required for anyone working with children.
Remote roles
Design, photography, videography, content production. Help Mayekoo show the work the way it deserves to be seen.
Social media, digital advocacy, campaign support, translation. Help the work travel further.
Research, content development, donor outreach. Help build what the field work stands on.
The process
Fill out the volunteer form — for a specific opportunity or general interest, in the field or remote.
A member of the Mayekoo team reviews every application and responds within two days.
Every field activity starts with an orientation covering safety, roles, and what to expect. Remote volunteers get a clear brief.
You'll be confirmed by email with everything you need — time, place, and what to bring, or your first remote assignment.
Before you sign up
We want your first day with Mayekoo to go smoothly — so here's everything to know upfront, with no surprises later.
Everyone. There's no age limit in either direction — kids, students, professionals, retirees. Volunteers under 15 just need a chaperone or guardian with them, and minors are welcome with parental consent or through their school. Some of our best cleanup days have been family days.
Roles involving children or vulnerable communities — like our menstrual hygiene education programs — require a simple identity check first: your name and proof of identity. It's how we protect the communities we serve, and it takes minutes.
We'd love to have you in the field — volunteers have joined us from around the world. Just know before you book:
Mayekoo doesn't provide travel packages, accommodation, or insurance. Flights, lodging, insurance, and your visa are yours to arrange and pay for.
Most non-residents need a visa for Ghana and the other countries where we work. If the visa process feels daunting, reach out at hello@mayekoo.com — we're happy to help you navigate the application, though the costs and arrangements stay with you.

Teams welcome
Companies, universities, schools, and community groups volunteer with Mayekoo — no minimum size, no maximum. Companies can sponsor a project and volunteer on it too. We'll build custom volunteer days for corporate teams, and universities can form ongoing Mayekoo student teams.

Yes — two ways. Skills-based volunteers contribute remotely from anywhere in the world. And international volunteers are welcome to join field activities in person, covering their own travel, accommodation, insurance, and visa.
No. Mayekoo does not provide travel packages. International volunteers arrange and cover their own flights, accommodation, insurance, and visas. We're glad to help coordinate your visa application process — contact hello@mayekoo.com.
The Mayekoo team reviews your application and responds within 48 hours. If you're joining a field activity, you'll attend an orientation first, then receive confirmation by email with all details.
For most field roles, no — cleanups and community activities include orientation and on-site guidance. Skills-based roles (design, translation, research) draw on what you already know.
For roles involving children or vulnerable communities, yes — volunteers provide their name and proof of identity.
Beach cleanups run on a recurring basis at active sites, and project-based opportunities are posted as they're scheduled. Opportunities are updated regularly — check back or sign up to be notified.
Yes — any size. Companies can sponsor and participate in the same project, and we create custom volunteer days for teams. Universities can form ongoing student groups.
