Support Mayekoo's Community Literacy Improvement Program
Mayekoo (Project Andiamo Foundation) is a U.S. 501(c)(3) public charity with an office and team in Accra — and we’re raising funds to lead a literacy push across Africa where it breaks down first: in underserved schools and communities.
We’ve already launched the pilot in Accra at Tenashie A&B Primary. Now we’re raising funds to scale what we started at Tenashie and expand through a coalition model across Africa — working alongside partners like Lincoln Community School & the Indian High Commission in Accra, civic organizations like Rotary Club of Accra, corporate sponsors, and vetted implementing partners like Reformation Community.
Because a child in school isn’t always a child learning. Too many children across Ghana — and across Africa — reach age 10 unable to read and understand a simple text. Literacy changes everything: confidence, learning outcomes, opportunity, and long-term quality of life. That’s why this matters, and why we’re asking you to be part of it.
What We’re Funding
Your support helps power Community-Based & Advocacy Literacy Initiatives designed to build a lasting culture of reading:
- School Reading Clubs — structured weekly clubs across primary, junior, and senior high schools
- Reading Days of Service — volunteer-powered reading events that make reading exciting, visible, and routine
- Mobile & Pop-Up Libraries — classroom mini-libraries plus pop-up/mobile reading stations
- Guest Reader Events — with schools, Rotary, volunteers and corporate partners
- Teacher Support & Materials — practical literacy support and classroom-ready reading tools
- Advocacy & Public Momentum — storytelling activations and community reading challenges, including World Read Aloud Day
How We’ll Measure Progress
We’ll publish simple, transparent metrics so donors can see what moved:
- # of books donated/received and circulated
- # of reading clubs launched
- # of volunteer/guest reading events hosted
- # of Days of Service delivered
Why This Works
We’re not running a one-time book drop. We’re building something communities can sustain: books + habits + volunteers + teachers + accountability. That’s how reading becomes normal — and literacy becomes lasting.
