Donate & Help Provide Affordable Prosthetics for Kenyan Amputees
Mayekoo (Project Andiamo Foundation) is a U.S. public charity (IRS 501(c)(3)) that raises funds and leads delivery of social impact projects with vetted local partners across Africa. We pair donations with skilled volunteers and professionals to manage projects, transfer know-how, and build lasting local capacity.
Today, we’re raising $23,000 with our implementing partner, Prothea Kenya, to help low-income amputees regain mobility and independence. In Kenya, many amputees can’t afford a prosthetic limb or orthotic device—even at low-cost rates. Without one, a parent struggles to work, a student can’t return to school, and everyday tasks become exhausting or impossible. Prothea Kenya designs and manufactures high-quality, affordable prosthetics and orthotics locally, but demand is overwhelming. Your support will help provide custom-fitted devices plus rehabilitation support so recipients can safely walk, work, and live with confidence again.
The Challenge
Losing a limb is not just a medical event—it becomes an economic and social crisis when people can’t access assistive devices.
Many of the amputees who come to Prothea Kenya are living day-to-day and cannot afford even subsidized prosthetic and orthotic care. Without these devices, people face:
-
Limited mobility and loss of independence
-
Higher risk of injury, pain, and secondary complications
-
Lost income or inability to work
-
Interrupted education for children and young adults
-
Social isolation and reduced participation in community life
For too many patients, the gap isn’t willingness—it’s affordability.
The Solution
With $23,000, Prothea Kenya will deliver a package of support that starts with the device and ends with the ability to use it:
-
Provide custom-fitted prosthetic limbs for amputees who cannot afford them
-
Produce orthotic devices that improve alignment, reduce pain, and increase function
-
Offer rehabilitation/physio support so recipients can adapt safely and effectively
-
Conduct targeted outreach to identify needy amputees and connect them to services
Recipients will be prioritized based on financial need and functional impact—especially those working to return to school, employment, or caregiving responsibilities.
A properly fitted prosthetic or orthotic doesn’t just restore movement—it restores choices. Recipients can return to work, stay in school, care for their families, and participate fully in community life.
Over time, local manufacturing and rehabilitation support reduce dependence on expensive imports and help build a more sustainable, affordable pathway for amputee mobility care in Kenya.
