Support Beach Cleanup and Coastal Restoration in Ghana
Ghana’s beaches should be places of beauty, livelihood, community, and pride — not dumping grounds for plastic waste, textile waste, and debris.
Across parts of Accra’s coastline, beaches are being overwhelmed by a waste crisis that is bigger than any one community. Plastic pollution, discarded clothing and fabric waste, poor drainage, illegal dumping, limited public waste infrastructure, and inadequate collection systems all contribute to the problem. Over time, waste moves through streets, drains, waterways, lagoons, and coastal communities before collecting along the shore or entering the ocean.
The result is visible and harmful. Plastic and textile waste damage beaches, threaten marine life, affect fishing communities, disrupt local vendors and small businesses, reduce the beauty and safety of public spaces, and weaken the economic well-being of residents who depend on the coastline.
Mayekoo is taking practical action.
Through regular beach cleanups at multiple beaches in Accra, Mayekoo works with volunteers, local partners, cleanup crews, and community stakeholders to remove waste from polluted coastal areas. Mayekoo’s HD-600 beach rake and tractor help remove larger volumes of waste from the sand. For larger cleanup operations, we also coordinate the use of front loaders, bulldozers, dump trucks, and dumpsters, and work with registered local trash-removal companies to haul away waste removed from the beaches before it reaches or returns to the ocean.
This model allows people, equipment, and local partners to work together.
Volunteers collect waste by hand, support sorting, reach areas machinery cannot access, and help build community awareness. The beach rake and tractor help clear larger stretches of beach, lift buried debris, and make cleanup operations more effective. Heavy machinery, dumpsters, dump trucks, and registered trash-removal partners help ensure that waste removed from the beaches is hauled away instead of being left behind to wash back into the ocean.
This is not a one-day photo opportunity. It is regular, coordinated, community-led environmental action.
Cleaner beaches are better for the ocean, but they are also better for the people who live, work, fish, sell, gather, and build their lives near the coast. They support healthier communities, safer public spaces, and stronger local livelihoods.
Your donation helps Mayekoo continue this work.
Your gift supports volunteer mobilization, cleanup supplies, safety materials, field coordination, HD-600 beach rake and tractor operations, heavy machinery coordination, dumpsters, hauling, registered trash-removal services, documentation, and donor reporting.
Help Mayekoo remove plastic waste, textile waste, and debris from Ghana’s beaches — and help protect the ocean, marine life, and coastal communities.
Donate today to support beach cleanup and coastal restoration in Ghana.
