When coastal pollution reaches the point of long-term accumulation, restoring a shoreline requires far more than volunteer enthusiasm alone. It requires machinery, fuel, hauling, logistics, community engagement, and sustained follow-through.
That is what made Clifton Homes’ support so important to Mayekoo’s Chorkor–Chemuena and Ananse Beach interventions in Greater Accra.
From April to May 2026, Mayekoo implemented two major coastal restoration interventions that combined mechanized cleanup, volunteer mobilization, and stakeholder collaboration across two heavily polluted coastal locations.
The result

Together, the two interventions delivered:
-
375 metric tons of waste removed
-
421+ volunteers mobilized
-
900 meters of shoreline restored
-
2 coastal ecosystems actively restored
Why this partnership mattered

Large-scale coastal restoration is expensive and operationally complex. It involves project coordination, equipment deployment, fuel, hauling, transportation, manpower, and community engagement. It also requires the flexibility to continue working beyond a short intervention window when waste volumes exceed what can be cleared immediately.
Clifton Homes’ contribution made this work possible and helped Mayekoo move beyond small-scale cleanup into a more ambitious restoration model.
More than a one-time intervention

The work at Chorkor and Nungua also surfaced the broader systems needed for long-term success, including:
-
ongoing waste removal
-
environmental monitoring
-
community sensitization
-
stronger stewardship and local ownership
-
washroom facilities
-
waste collection points
-
anti-pollution signage
-
trash-arresting booms
This is what effective environmental partnership looks like: not only funding visible impact, but helping create conditions for sustained change.
Mayekoo welcomes opportunities to work with corporate and institutional partners who want to support practical, measurable, community-facing environmental restoration.
