Help Smile Agenda Foundation Provide Free Sanitary Pads for Girls in Rural Ghana
Smile Agenda Foundation is a registered Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) based in Accra, Ghana with business registration number CG016582018 and tax ID C0010631682. Established in 2017, the foundation is dedicated to improving education and empowering children in rural communities through initiatives that provide mentorship, educational resources, and menstrual health support.
Our flagship programs include:
- Write With Smiles – A mentorship and workshop program for students preparing for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), helping over 1,000 candidates across three regions.
- Smiles of Hope – An educational material donation project, providing school uniforms, books, shoes, and essential supplies to students in need.
- Pad The Girls’ Period With Smiles – A menstrual hygiene education and sanitary pad donation program designed to reduce school absenteeism and end period stigma for girls in rural communities.
With your support, we can expand our Pad The Girls’ Period With Smiles initiative to reach over 100 schools across 10 regions in Ghana, ensuring that no girl misses school because of her period.
The Challenge
Lack of Access to Sanitary Pads – Many school-aged girls in rural Ghana cannot afford menstrual products, forcing them to miss school or resort to unsafe alternatives.
High Absenteeism & School Dropout Rates – Research shows that period poverty contributes to higher absenteeism and increased school dropout rates among girls in rural areas.
Stigma & Lack of Education – Menstruation is still widely stigmatized, leaving many girls ashamed and unprepared to manage their periods confidently.
No Menstrual Hygiene Education – Many teachers, parents, and boys lack awareness about menstruation, leading to misconceptions, discrimination, and shame.
Without intervention, thousands of girls in Ghana will continue to face these barriers, jeopardizing their education and long-term opportunities.
Why It Matters
Education is a Right, Not a Privilege – Ensuring that girls stay in school during their menstrual cycle helps break the cycle of poverty.
Ending Period Stigma Empowers Girls – Creating open conversations builds confidence and self-esteem, reducing embarrassment and shame.
Health & Hygiene Matter – Access to safe, clean sanitary pads and menstrual education promotes better health outcomes and reduces infections caused by unsafe alternatives.
Equal Opportunities for Girls – When girls have equal access to education, they are less likely to drop out or experience early pregnancy.
Your support can ensure that every girl in rural Ghana has access to menstrual hygiene products, education, and dignity.
