Fund Life-Changing Cleft Surgeries in Ghana with Operation Smile

Mayekoo (Project Andiamo Foundation), a U.S. 501(c)(3) and Ghanaian public charity, is partnering directly with Operation Smile Ghana, part of Operation Smile International, to help fund safe, comprehensive cleft treatment for children in underserved communities across Ghana.

For more than 35 years globally — and since 2011 in Ghana — Operation Smile has provided over 250,000 free surgeries for children and adults born with cleft lip and cleft palate — one of the most common congenital birth defects worldwide.

Since its establishment in Ghana in 2011, Operation Smile Ghana has partnered with the Ministry of Health and Ghana Health Service to carry out 31 medical missions, transforming the lives of more than 3,200 Ghanaian children and adults through free, safe, and life-changing surgeries.

This fundraiser supports the next 26 children and counting waiting for care.

The Challenge

Many of the children served live in deprived conditions. Some are abandoned at birth due to stigma. Others are raised by single parents who cannot afford surgery, transportation, or post-operative care.

Access to cleft treatment is limited to a small number of facilities. Families often travel long distances and face costs they simply cannot manage.

Without timely intervention, children may struggle with:

• Malnutrition due to feeding difficulties
• Speech delays
• Social isolation and stigma
• Long-term developmental challenges

This is not just about appearance. It is about health, nutrition, communication, and dignity.
