Mayekoo Completes Borehole Project at Vakpo E.P. Primary School

Mayekoo is pleased to announce the successful completion of the Vakpo Borehole Project at Vakpo E.P. Primary School in Vakpo Afeyeme, Volta Region.

Completed on April 10, 2026, the project now provides more than 500 pupils and staff with access to safe, reliable water for drinking, sanitation, and daily school use.

This is the kind of project that changes everyday life in simple but important ways.

Why this project mattered

Before the intervention, access to clean water was limited, affecting hygiene practices and creating an added burden for both students and staff.

Reliable water access is not a luxury for a school community. It affects:

  • drinking water availability

  • handwashing and sanitation

  • overall health and hygiene

  • the daily learning environment

  • the dignity and well-being of pupils and staff

At Vakpo E.P. Primary School, this project helped respond to a long-standing need with practical infrastructure that can support the school community for years to come.

What was installed

The project involved:

  • a 100-meter borehole

  • a 450-gallon polytank storage system

Together, these components now provide a more dependable water source for the school.

Impact achieved

The project is already contributing to:

  • safe and reliable water access for over 500 pupils and staff

  • improved handwashing and sanitation practices

  • reduced dependence on external water sources

  • a healthier and more supportive learning environment

  • stronger school infrastructure that will benefit future generations of students

This is practical impact in one of its clearest forms.

A project made possible through partnership

The Vakpo Borehole Project was made possible through the generous support of the Jaques Family of Baltimore, Maryland, whose contribution covered approximately 65 percent of the total project cost.

Additional support was provided by Mayekoo and individual donors who shared the vision of improving access to clean water for schoolchildren. Mayekoo also acknowledges Twellium Industrial Company, producers of Verna Mineral Water, for supporting the commissioning event.

The project was officially commissioned on April 10, 2026, in the presence of traditional, religious, educational, and community leaders, alongside school representatives, volunteers, and other stakeholders.

What this says about Mayekoo’s work

This project reflects Mayekoo’s commitment to practical, community-driven solutions that strengthen education, health, and daily life.

A borehole may look simple. But for a school community, reliable water can improve hygiene, reduce stress, support attendance, and make the school environment safer and more functional.

Mayekoo remains committed to supporting projects that solve real problems in ways communities can see, use, and benefit from every day.
