Donate to SAAF to Help Build a STEM Safe Haven for Displaced Children in Bamenda, Cameroon
Sustainable Actions Afrika (SAAF) is a grassroots nonprofit working in Cameroon to ensure no child is left behind—even in crisis. Registered under Reg. No. 817/G.37/C84/VOL I/SAAJP/A3, our organization was founded in response to the escalating Anglophone conflict that has devastated schools, displaced families, and forced hundreds of thousands of children out of education.
We believe that education is not just a right—it’s resistance, especially in conflict zones where classrooms are burned, teachers are targeted, and hope is stripped away.
At the heart of our mission is the Pathfinders STEM Hub in Bamenda, a safe and empowering learning space offering hands-on education in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM)—combined with creative arts, mindsports, and a dedicated STEM library.
We’re raising $12,000 to expand access to this vital hub, equipping out-of-school and displaced youth with the tools, skills, and courage to rebuild their futures.
The Challenges
The ongoing Anglophone crisis in Cameroon has devastated the educational landscape in the North West region, particularly in Bamenda. Schools have been burned, teachers killed , and thousands of children forced to flee their homes. More than 600000 youths have been out of school for years, and some have turned to armed groups, survival sex, or drug abuse in the absence of safe learning spaces. The majority of these children and youth live in internally displaced persons centers where access to education, technology, and electricity is almost non-existent.
At Pathfinders STEM Hub, we offer a lifeline; an alternative learning space where crisis-affected and under-resourced children can rebuild hope through STEM education, and immersive learning practices. However, we are currently facing serious constraints:
Limited infrastructure and materials to meet growing demand.
Lack of funding for skilled trainers and mentors
Insufficient digital tools, internet access, and backup power supply
Lack of STEM books in our community STEM library, educational STEM kits in our Maker space and mind game
Your support is urgently needed to sustain and expand this critical hub. Funds raised will be used to:
Purchase Educational STEM kits, STEM books and educational materials
Expand our space to accommodate more learners, books and STEM tools.
Enhance digital access with internet connectivity and solar backup power
Scale outreach to reach more displaced and out-of-school youth.
Why it matters
Funds raised for the Hub will directly impact the lives of crisis-affected and under-resourced children in Bamenda, Cameroon—many of whom have lost access to formal education due to the ongoing Anglophone conflict. These children are not just out of school; they are at risk of being recruited into armed groups, drug abuse, exploited for survival, or lost to cycles of poverty and despair.
Your support will give them a second chance.
With the funds, we will provide safe, inclusive, and hands-on STEM learning opportunities through access to science kits, a community STEM library, digital tools, and trained mentors. Learners will gain essential 21st-century skills in areas like renewable energy, basic electronics, AI, and upcycling of electronic waste. This will empower them with knowledge and practical skills that can lead to micro-enterprises and long-term economic resilience.
Your donation helps restore hope, dignity, and the belief that these young people matter that their future is not defined by conflict, but by opportunity. Your donations will be investing in peace, equity, and the untapped potential of a generation eager to rise above crisis.
Solution
Our solution is the Pathfinders STEM Hub, a dynamic, safe, inclusive, and hands-on learning space designed to support crisis-affected and under-resourced children in Bamenda, Cameroon.
The Hub addresses these urgent needs through three interconnected components:
Community STEM Library: This is the first and only library of its kind in the area, offering access to STEM-focused books, reading materials, and educational resources. Bamenda with more than 650000 inhabitants, the city has no city or community library. Most students cannot afford textbooks, internet access, or digital devices, our library provides a critical space for literacy, self-guided learning, and academic recovery.
Maker Space: Equipped with educational STEM kits, this space allows children to learn by doing. From building solar-powered devices to exploring electronics and simple robotics, learners engage in practical problem-solving and creativity, boosting their confidence and inspiring future careers in science and technology.
Mind Sports Platform: Games like Scrabble, Chess, and local logic games are integrated into our program to enhance mental fitness. These activities strengthen memory, focus, and emotional regulation which are key supports for children suffering from trauma, displacement, and disrupted learning.
In our solution we are offering a holistic solution to the educational and psychosocial challenges facing a forgotten generation. With sustained funding, we can expand our reach and ensure that every child, no matter their background, has the opportunity to learn, heal, and grow.
Thank you for helping us turn crisis into creativity. Your support builds safe spaces, restores learning, and lets our children dream again. Together, we are not just teaching science—we are engineering hope.
With Gratitude
