Donate to CHIYN’s “We Belong Here” Campaign and Defend Human Rights
Community Health Initiative for Youth in Nigeria (CHIYN Initiative) is a youth-led, non-governmental organization based in Minna, Niger State, Nigeria (Company Registration No: 86415, Tax ID No: 199531990001). Since our founding in 2016, we’ve worked at the frontlines of health and human rights advocacy, especially for marginalized groups including LGBTIQ+ youth—those often pushed into silence or criminalized simply for being who they are.
With strong partnerships, including one with Heartland Alliance Limited by Guarantee, CHIYN empowers Nigeria’s most vulnerable young people with healthcare, legal support, community, and the radical affirmation that they belong.
The Challenges
In Northern Nigeria, being LGBTIQ+ often means facing daily threats of violence, discrimination, and isolation. But every young person deserves more — the right to feel safe, be seen, and belong.
“We Belong Here” is a community-led fundraising campaign focused on creating safe spaces, emergency support, and mental health resources for LGBTIQ+ youth across Northern Nigeria. Your support will help us provide shelter, legal aid, trauma care, and empowerment programs for queer youth facing hostility, homelessness, or invisibility.
Together, we can remind every LGBTIQ+ person that they are not alone, that they are valued, and that they belong — here, and everywhere.
Why it matters
In Northern Nigeria, LGBTIQ+ youth face severe risks simply for existing — from homelessness, family rejection, and police harassment, to violence and mental health crises. These young people often have nowhere to turn, no safe spaces to heal, and no support systems to lean on.
“We Belong Here” is more than a campaign — it's a lifeline. Funds raised will go directly toward creating and sustaining safe, affirming spaces where LGBTIQ+ youth can access shelter, counseling, legal aid, and essential health services without fear. These funds will also support emergency response efforts for those in immediate danger, and peer support circles that foster belonging, hope, and resilience.
Your donation means:
A young queer person fleeing violence can sleep safely tonight.
Someone in mental health distress will receive trauma-informed counseling.
A safe community hub can open its doors with dignity, privacy, and love.
Human rights education can reach youth who’ve never been told “you matter.”
When you give, you're not just donating — you're showing up for those who’ve been silenced, pushed aside, or forgotten. You’re saying: You are not alone. You are seen. You belong.
Help us build the safety, love, and freedom that every young person deserves.
Solution
The goal of the “We Belong Here” campaign is to create safe, inclusive, and sustainable support systems for LGBTIQ+ youth in Northern Nigeria — youth who are too often forced to live in silence, fear, or isolation.
We aim to raise funds to establish community-led safe spaces that provide:
- Emergency shelter for LGBTIQ+ youth facing violence or homelessness.
- Mental health support, including trauma counseling and group therapy.
- Legal aid and rights education to help youth navigate criminalization and discrimination.
- Community-building activities that foster confidence, solidarity, and healing.
This solution is rooted in compassion, dignity, and local empowerment. By working with grassroots organizations, allies, and trained queer peer advocates, we will create environments where LGBTIQ+ youth are not just protected — they are affirmed and celebrated.
