The Sunflower Age is a visionary organization dedicated to nurturing future leaders through mentorship, access to educational opportunities, and leadership development programs.

Our Mission: Empower young minds to become critical thinkers and changemakers who can address global challenges through a growth mindset.

At The Sunflower Age, we believe every student deserves a comfortable and supportive learning environment to thrive academically and personally. However, the current Form 1 students at Teshie Presbyterian Senior High School face a significant challenge—a critical shortage of desks that disrupts their education and hinders their potential.

With your help, we aim to raise $5,000 to provide 200 dual desks for these students, ensuring they can learn in dignity and focus on their bright futures.

Our Projects:

  • The Future Me: Leadership training series in Senior High Schools across Ghana, focusing on goal setting, time management, resilience, and growth mindset.
  • The Sunflower Mentorship: A mentorship program for 90 students across 10 Senior High Schools, focusing on personal, leadership, and career development.
  • The Future Me (Online): An online learning platform for 125 students across Ghana, hosting virtual events during school breaks.

The Challenge

The Form 1 students at Teshie Presbyterian SHS are facing a dire shortage of desks, which has significantly disrupted their education:

  • Insufficient Desks: With only 470 desks for 542 students, 183 students are left without adequate seating.
  • Disruptive Learning Environment: Students are forced to roam during lessons in search of broken chairs, stand during class, or even bring chairs from home.
  • Examination Challenges: The lack of desks requires exams to be written in batches, compromising the integrity of the process and causing potential question leaks.

These challenges hinder student concentration, reduce academic performance, and negatively impact overall learning outcomes.

Why This Matters

A well-designed and comfortable classroom environment is critical to student learning and behavior. Research shows that proper classroom furniture directly impacts academic performance, cognitive functioning, and collaborative interactions among students.

The Benefits of Providing Desks:

  • Improved Academic Performance: Enhanced focus and reduced disruptions lead to better test scores.
  • Increased Attendance: Students are more likely to attend school when they have a comfortable space to learn.
  • Fostering Equity: Ensuring all students have access to desks promotes equal opportunities for learning.
  • Long-Term Impact: A supportive learning environment empowers students to achieve their full potential and contribute positively to society.

Our Solution

By providing 200 dual desks, we will:

  1. Ensure all students have proper seating, reducing distractions and fostering a conducive learning environment.
  2. Improve classroom efficiency, particularly during exams, eliminating the need for batch testing.
  3. Support better academic performance, with an anticipated 20% improvement in attendance and a 15% increase in test scores within the first year.

This initiative is part of a phased approach to improve learning conditions across all grades at Teshie Presbyterian SHS.

Your support is more than a donation—it’s a step toward creating a brighter future for students in Ghana. By contributing to this initiative, you’re helping to break down barriers to education, empower young minds, and build a foundation for success.
