From its earliest days, SWUI has prioritized transparency, accountability, and community-led action. Programs are built on careful research and local feedback, ensuring that each initiative—from health outreach to education and advocacy—meets the real needs of the women and girls it serves.

The Challenges

Across underserved communities in Greater Accra and surrounding districts, women and girls face staggering barriers. Many lack access to essential healthcare, routine screenings, and safe spaces where they can seek help without fear or stigma. Survivors of gender-based violence often remain unseen, and preventable illnesses go undetected.

To meet these needs, SWUI must establish a dedicated physical center—a welcoming space where women can access screenings, counseling, mentorship, and education. The plan includes leasing or purchasing a centrally located facility, furnishing waiting rooms and private exam areas, and equipping it with the tools necessary for clinical breast exams and other critical health services.

Building this center requires more than bricks and equipment. It means hiring and training skilled nurses, health workers, outreach officers, and counselors. It calls for community-wide education campaigns, radio outreach, and volunteer mobilization to ensure every woman and girl knows she is welcome and supported. It also requires transportation logistics to help vulnerable women reach the center and receive care—costs that many cannot afford alone.

• Purchasing essential medical equipment and supplies—from examination beds and gloves to ultrasound tools and cleaning materials.

• Hiring and training core staff, including nurses, outreach officers, and counselors, ensuring quality care and sustainable operations.

• Launching outreach and awareness campaigns through radio, social media, and local workshops, mobilizing volunteers and connecting with vulnerable women.
