Help Period Bank Initiative Empower Girls in Nigeria with Menstrual Kits
The Period Bank Initiative is a registered Canadian non-profit and an initiative of ChuChu Softies, working to promote menstrual dignity and access for girls in Nigeria. We exist to ensure that no girl is left behind simply because of her period. Our efforts are focused on closing the menstrual health gap by distributing sanitary kits, emergency supplies, and providing menstrual education tailored to the realities of Nigerian communities.
We are proudly supported by the African Impact Initiative, Mayekoo, The Anzisha Prize South Africa, AL for Health South Africa, and other partners. Our work empowers girls to manage menstruation with dignity while continuing their education without interruption.
The Challenges
Knosk Charity Secondary School in Kuje, Abuja, is a remarkable model of inclusive education for students from low-income families. Operating on a "pay-as-you-can" model, students often pay as little as 100 Naira (approximately 6 US cents) per day to attend. However, for many girls at the school, menstrual health remains a major barrier to consistent attendance, self-esteem, and wellbeing.
Through our partnership with Knosk, we aim to provide one year’s supply of safe, reusable menstrual kits to 100 girls, along with comprehensive menstrual health education. The total project cost is $3,000, which will cover both the kits and the education sessions.
By funding this campaign, you’re helping remove barriers to education for these girls and contributing to a future where no child’s potential is interrupted by their period.
Why it Matters
Menstrual poverty is more than a health issue it’s a gender equity and education issue. When a girl misses school due to a lack of menstrual products, it affects her future, her confidence, and her community.
At Period Bank Initiative, we’re committed to restoring dignity and unlocking the potential of girls by ensuring that menstruation never stands in the way of their education. This project supports the health, confidence, and future of the girls we serve.
Solution
Our response is practical and community centered. We will distribute antibacterial, reusable sanitary kits designed to last up to 18 months, providing girls with a sustainable way to manage their periods.
We also offer menstrual education programs both online and in person that empower girls with knowledge about their bodies, reproductive health, and hygiene. This initiative will not only support school attendance but also reduce stigma, encourage confidence, and promote long-term gender equality.
Together with schools, community leaders, and youth champions, we are building a future where every girl can manage her period safely, confidently, and without missing out on her education.
