Mayekoo Foundation LBG is a registered social impact organization based in Accra, Ghana (Company Registration No: CG070451022 | Tax ID No: C006221280X). For years, we've led beach cleanups across Ghana. But today, the crisis at Labadi Beach and neighboring shores has grown beyond manual response. What was once a vibrant coastline and community hub is now drowning in pollution—choking marine life and robbing families of their livelihoods.

Mayekoo’s Ongoing Commitment

We host multiple cleanups each month in Accra, engaging hundreds of volunteers from local communities, businesses, families, and the global community. These cleanups are the last line of defense against marine pollution.

But we do more than just remove trash—we use the data our volunteers collect (like total waste collected and waste type by area) to:

  • Educate communities and businesses

  • Influence policy

  • Advocate for the health of our waterways

  • Mobilize visitors and residents to become long-term advocates for safe, sustainable beach access

We also encourage trash removal in any accessible outdoor location across Ghana, not just beaches.

We protect human and marine health through education and outreach. And we’re working with local businesses, schools, and individuals to move away from single-use plastics and toward reusables—building a strong coalition for long-term change.

We can’t afford to wait. Climate change, ocean pollution, and poor waste infrastructure demand urgent action—locally and globally.

The Challenges Facing Accra’s Beaches

Accra’s iconic beaches—once sources of pride and prosperity—are now overwhelmed by:

  • Single-Use Plastic Invasion: Water bottles, sachet bags, and packaging materials litter the sand and choke marine animals.

  • Storm Drain Runoff: Urban waste pours directly onto the shore, bringing household trash, sewage, and toxins.

  • Imported Fashion Waste: Discarded clothing and textiles dumped along the coast worsen pollution and damage ecosystems.

  • Inadequate Infrastructure: The absence of proper waste management systems leaves communities unequipped to maintain a clean, sustainable environment.

Without immediate intervention, we risk losing these vital ecosystems—and the communities that depend on them.

Why It Matters

This isn’t just a local environmental issue. It’s a human emergency—and a global call to action.

  • Local fishermen are losing their catch—and their livelihoods.
  • Children and families are exposed to hazardous waste and diseases.
  • Tourism suffers, jobs vanish, and the social fabric tears as pollution pushes communities to the brink.

The social fabric is torn — we aim to stitch it back with dignity, skill, and solidarity.

Clean beaches mean:

  • Thriving marine life and restored biodiversity
  • Jobs for youth and small businesses in eco-tourism
  • Hope for a sustainable future, not just in Ghana—but globally

The Solution

Immediate Needs

  • Mechanized Clean-Ups: Donations to cover the deployment of Mayekoo's tractor, mechanized beach rake and volunteers to remove tons of debris efficiently

  • Critical Sanitation Support: Provide bins, PPE, and waste separation stations on high-volume beaches

Mid-Term Goals

  • Community-Led Monitoring Teams: Train locals to maintain beach cleanliness and raise awareness

  • Educational Workshops: Promote sustainable practices in schools, fishing communities, and markets

  • Volunteer Coordination & Incentive Programs: Engage youth, tourists, and civic groups in cleanup efforts

Long-Term Vision

  • Integrated Waste Management Systems: Partner with municipalities to develop coastal waste solutions

  • Marine Life Protection Zones: Advocate for laws to restrict dumping and restore ecological balance

  • Climate Resilience Infrastructure: Strengthen coastlines to absorb storm surges and reduce erosion

We need to act now. The longer we wait, the more irreversible the damage becomes.

Every donation is a lifeline—for the fishermen, the children, the sea turtles, and the communities who call these shores home. Your support helps us reclaim our beaches, restore dignity, and spark a wave of hope across the country. Yedase paa (Thank you deeply).

Transparency Promise

We pledge to uphold the highest standards of transparency and accountability. Every contribution will be diligently tracked, with regular updates on our progress and detailed reports on how your donations are making a difference.
