Help CMCE Rebuild Osuodumgya Primary School After the Fire
In the heart of Ghana’s Ahafo Region, Coalition for Maternal Health and Citizen Empowerment (CMCE-Gh) has been a beacon of hope since 1995. Registered under company number CG029262018 and tax ID C0011401389, CMCE champions vulnerable communities—especially women and children—across four rural districts: Asutifi North and South, Dormaa Municipality, and Dormaa East.
With programs in education, health, governance, and sustainable livelihoods, our mission is to empower the most marginalized. We work hand-in-hand with local leaders, parents, and institutions to turn policy into impact and ensure no one is left behind.
But today, we’re facing a devastating crisis that threatens the future of over 500 schoolchildren.
The Challenges
In December 2024, Osuodumgya Primary School in the Asutifi South District was completely destroyed by fire. Classrooms, desks, books, blackboards—everything reduced to ashes.
Now, more than 500 children are attending school under trees, battling the unforgiving sun, torrential rains, and the trauma of displacement. There are no desks. No chalkboards. No toilets. And no shelter.
This is more than a burnt building—it’s a burning crisis.
Children are falling sick from the exposure. Attendance is dropping. Teachers are demoralized. Parents are heartbroken. And yet, education is their only shot at a better life.
We can’t afford to let a generation of rural Ghanaian children be left behind because they lost their school to fire.
Why It Matters
For a child who walks miles to school each morning, having a roof over their head isn’t a luxury—it’s a lifeline.
Osuodumgya Primary School was the only educational facility in this underserved rural community. Its destruction didn’t just erase a building—it disrupted futures, dignity, and a vital path out of poverty.
When children study under trees:
-
Their books are destroyed by rain.
-
Their focus is shattered by heat or wind.
-
Their safety is compromised.
-
Their futures dim with every stormcloud.
But with your support, we can change that.
Rebuilding the school will:
-
Restore structure, stability, and hope.
-
Improve academic performance and emotional well-being.
-
Reduce absenteeism and early dropout.
-
Reaffirm the community’s faith in education.
This is not just about infrastructure—it’s about justice and opportunity.
