Donate to Youth in Action for Development to Help Teenage Mothers in Rwanda Build a Brighter Future

Our work spans across multiple sectors, but one of the most pressing challenges we address is the growing crisis of teenage pregnancy. Teenage mothers in Rwanda often face stigma, school dropout, economic hardship, and isolation. Most lack access to the tools, training, and support they need to rebuild their lives and care for their children.

Through our community-based programs, we equip these young mothers with vocational and life skills, mental health support, access to education, and tools for self-reliance. We believe that every young woman deserves the opportunity to thrive—no matter her circumstances.

The Challenges

Teenage pregnancy continues to be a deeply rooted issue in Rwanda, with significant social and economic consequences for young mothers and their children. Many of these girls drop out of school, are abandoned by families or partners, and face discrimination from their communities.

Their struggles include:

• Lack of access to reproductive health education

• Social stigma and emotional trauma

• Loss of education and future job opportunities

• Inability to provide proper care for their children

• No access to childcare or mentorship

• Limited access to maternal health and mental wellness support

YADE is already working with young mothers in the Western Province, but to create long-term impact, we need funding to expand training programs, offer direct support, and build sustainable systems for reintegration and growth.

Why It Matters

When a teenage girl becomes a mother without support, her chances of finishing school, securing a job, or leading an independent life diminish drastically. The consequences extend to her child, who may also face a life of poverty, poor health, and exclusion.

This project is not just about providing aid—it’s about changing trajectories. With training, tools, and emotional support, these girls can gain the skills to support themselves and raise healthy, well-cared-for children.

Solution

Through this fundraiser, we aim to raise $8,750 to provide a comprehensive support system for teenage mothers in Rwanda’s Western Province. Funds will be used to:

• Deliver vocational training in tailoring, ICT, beauty therapy, agriculture, and animal rearing

• Provide starter kits and tools for small business development

• Cover education support including school fees, supplies, and literacy tutoring

• Organize life skills workshops focused on parenting, time management, communication, and confidence building

• Offer maternal health and psychosocial care, including nutrition education and mental wellness sessions

• Provide childcare support to ease the burden of parenting while learning or working

• Facilitate mentorship, advocacy, and community awareness campaigns to reduce stigma

• Support monitoring and graduation to ensure sustainability and impact
