Donate to the Kyereh Foundation to End Period Poverty for Girls in Ghana
The Kyereh Foundation is a women- and youth-led nonprofit organization founded in 2017 and dedicated to ending period poverty among girls especially those of school-going age who often miss class due to a lack of access to menstrual products. Our mission is to ensure that menstruation is never a barrier to education.
We provide training and distribute sustainable menstrual products, such as reusable pads and menstrual cups, which last between 3 to 10 years. These solutions empower girls to manage their periods with dignity and remain in school uninterrupted. Our commitment to inclusion extends to menstrual health education tailored for girls living with disabilities, including those who are blind or deaf ensuring no one is left behind.
Since our inception, we have distributed over 50,000 menstrual health products across communities in Ghana, contributing meaningfully to menstrual equity and improved educational outcomes for all.
The Challenges
The Kyereh Foundation is currently seeking funding to expand our Red Revolution Project, which focuses on distributing sustainable menstrual products and delivering education on menstrual health management, reproductive health, and rights.
With this funding, we aim to reach 7,000 girls in rural Ghana, ensuring they have the tools and knowledge needed to manage their periods safely and stay in school. This effort is not only about health but about protecting girls, reducing school absenteeism, and addressing issues like child marriage and teenage pregnancy. Our vision is to empower girls to take control of their education, health, and future.
Why It Matters
This project is critical because it directly addresses period poverty—a barrier that disproportionately affects girls’ education, dignity, and life opportunities. By providing access to long-lasting menstrual products and inclusive education, the Red Revolution Project empowers girls to manage their periods with confidence, stay in school, and pursue their dreams.
It especially matters for girls with disabilities, who are often left out of mainstream health education. Through our inclusive approach, we ensure they also receive the knowledge and tools they need. Addressing period poverty is about more than access—it’s about equality, protection, and enabling girls to reach their full potential.
The Solution
Our solution to period poverty is built on sustainability, inclusion, and empowerment. Through the Red Revolution Project, we are creating a future where every girl—regardless of her background, disability status, or location—can access affordable, durable menstrual products and life-changing education on menstrual and reproductive health.
We combine the distribution of reusable pads (lasting up to 3 years) and menstrual cups (lasting up to 10 years) with hands-on, age-appropriate training. This holistic approach supports not just menstrual hygiene, but school retention, stigma reduction, and the prevention of early marriage and teenage pregnancy.
Our goal is clear: reach 7,000 girls in rural Ghana, including those with disabilities, and equip them to thrive. By tackling period poverty, we’re not just solving a health issue—we’re creating the conditions for lasting gender equality, educational opportunity, and empowered youth leadership.
