Donate to SOS Africa & Provide Food, Safety & Shelter for War-Affected Families in Goma, DRC
Save Our Societies of Africa (SOS Africa) is a registered humanitarian NGO based in Goma, Democratic Republic of the Congo. For over three years, SOS Africa has been a frontline defender of the environment, human rights, and the dignity of vulnerable women and children affected by conflict.
In 2023 alone, we:
-
Provided psychosocial and nutritional support to 300 street-connected children, many of whom were former child soldiers.
-
Assisted over 250 women survivors of sexual violence, distributing cash and household essentials to help rebuild their lives.
-
Trained 50 young people in computer literacy and driving, helping them reintegrate into society and avoid re-recruitment by armed groups.
But today, our community faces a worsening crisis—and our resources have run dry.
We are urgently raising $80,000 to evacuate at-risk women, children, and youth; provide long-term food supplies; and work with international partners to protect lives and restore dignity.
The Challenges
Goma and the surrounding areas are gripped by violence, instability, and unimaginable suffering. Since the withdrawal of major partners like USAID, and the arrival of foreign armed groups, our most vulnerable beneficiaries—especially female survivors of rape and young boys at risk of being forced into militias—face increasing threats.
-
Every two days, a woman is raped—sometimes in front of her children and husband.
-
Young boys are abducted or recruited back into armed groups, especially those unable to afford school or survival.
-
Children are disappearing. At least 45 are missing, and more than 290 girls have been reported raped or abducted since foreign militias entered the region.
-
Entire households live in fear—hungry, unprotected, and forgotten.
SOS Africa has identified at least 450 high-risk individuals, including children formerly in our programs, who must be urgently relocated to safer areas, such as Uvira, Kampala, or Kenya, where refugee protections and services are available.
Why It Matters
This campaign is not about charity—it’s about life and death.
Your support means:
-
A young girl won’t be assaulted again in a war zone.
-
A boy won’t be dragged back into the bush with a gun in his hand.
-
A mother won’t have to choose between fleeing or feeding her children.
-
A displaced family will eat, sleep, and breathe without fear—for the first time in years.
By enabling safe evacuation, food security, and international advocacy, we restore more than bodies—we restore hope, dignity, and the belief that their lives still matter.
The Solution
SOS Africa proposes a three-part emergency response to protect the most at-risk women and youth in Goma:
1. Safe Evacuation to Secure Zones
-
Relocate 450 beneficiaries to stable cities like Uvira, or to countries with refugee services including Kampala and Nairobi.
-
Work with UNHCR and other agencies to ensure legal support and long-term protection.
2. 4-Year Survival Warehouse
-
Establish a secure warehouse with food supplies for 300 households and 100 youth.
-
Ensure nutrition for displaced families while they recover and rebuild.
3. Advocacy, Data, and Investigations
-
Document and share data on missing children, raped girls, and abducted youth to inform international responses.
-
Continue field monitoring and reporting to strengthen accountability and guide humanitarian coordination.
Every contribution will bring urgent help to displaced survivors and help SOS Africa safeguard their futures. From the mothers we shelter to the youth we rescue—thank you. Your kindness is a lifeline. You are not just giving aid; you are giving safety, survival, and a future to those the world too often forgets. Together, we rise with them.
With Gratitude
