Donate to Organisation Paysanne pour le Développement Intégré & Help Build Peace in Uvira
Organisation Paysanne pour le Développement Intégré (OPDI) supports communities affected by the ongoing conflicts in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, particularly in South Kivu. OPDI is committed to building a society free from rural vulnerability and discrimination. Our work promotes solidarity, inclusion, and sustainable development.
Our Core Objectives:
-
Combat food insecurity in rural areas
-
Promote socio-economic integration for people with disabilities
-
Offer career paths to at-risk youth to prevent recruitment by armed groups
The Challenges
The Uvira Territory continues to suffer from inter-ethnic conflicts involving the Bafuliro, Banyamulenge, and Barundi communities. These conflicts stem from deep-rooted historical grievances, land disputes, and the influence of militias. Misinformation, especially through media and social platforms, further inflames divisions.
Young people, although deeply impacted, are also the key to lasting peace. However, their role as peacebuilders remains underutilized. This project seeks to change that by fostering dialogue, leadership, and mutual understanding among youth from different ethnic backgrounds.
Why It Matters
This project is essential because:
-
Over 70% of participating youth will engage in shared learning and cultural exchange activities to rebuild trust across ethnic lines.
-
120 young leaders will be trained to counter harmful misinformation and promote peace.
-
A community-led framework will be developed to address inter-ethnic tensions and propose local solutions for peace and coexistence.
Our Solution
To create inclusive spaces for dialogue and peacebuilding, OPDI will organize:
-
Sports competitions (soccer, basketball, athletics) to foster unity
-
Artistic competitions (poetry, singing, drawing, theater, dance) to express shared cultural identity
-
Digital peacebuilding workshops to equip youth leaders with tools to counter divisive narratives
-
A Community Reflection Day to create and adopt actionable plans for ethnic harmony and conflict prevention
Your donation will directly support logistics, training, equipment, and outreach to ensure these activities are well-executed and sustainable. With $20,000, we will strengthen inter-ethnic ties and empower the youth to become advocates for peace and stability in the Uvira Territory.
Support OPDI and help build a future where young people lead the way to peace in Eastern Congo.
Transparency Promise
We pledge to uphold the highest standards of transparency and accountability. Every contribution will be diligently tracked, with regular updates on our progress and detailed reports on how your donations are making a difference.
