Ligue des Pédagogues pour la Paix, la Solidarité et le Développement (LIPPSD) is a registered non-governmental organization based in Goma, Democratic Republic of the Congo. Founded in 2011 and officially registered in 2023, LIPPSD works to promote peace, education, psychosocial well-being, and sustainable development, especially among vulnerable and conflict-affected communities in North Kivu. Through grassroots, empowerment-driven projects, LIPPSD has impacted over 1,400 individuals across schools and communities by supporting reintegration and resilience-building for youth, students, and families in need.

The Challenges

Decades of armed conflict in North Kivu have left thousands of families displaced, impoverished, and struggling to access basic needs—including nutritious food. In Goma and surrounding areas, food insecurity is a growing crisis. Families are unable to afford balanced meals, which affects children's school performance, contributes to poor health outcomes, and increases dependence on humanitarian aid.
LIPPSD aims to help 150 of these vulnerable families start home gardens to grow their own food, but the initiative faces key challenges. These include lack of access to seeds, tools, and agricultural knowledge; limited financial resources; and the emotional toll of ongoing instability. Additionally, reaching and supporting these families with consistent training and follow-up remains logistically complex in a conflict-prone region.

Why It Matters

In a community marked by violence and displacement, growing food at home can be transformative. Home gardens offer families a reliable, low-cost way to improve their nutrition, reduce hunger, and build resilience against economic shocks. The initiative is also a platform for education and empowerment—particularly for women and youth—enabling them to create surplus income, regain dignity, and restore a sense of control over their future.

By supporting this project, donors will directly improve the lives of 150 families through better nutrition, food security, and self-sufficiency. Each garden is a step toward rebuilding a stronger, more stable community—and reducing reliance on fragile aid systems. In the face of chronic conflict, this solution offers hope, growth, and a chance for families to thrive with dignity.

Solution

LIPPSD’s home garden project will equip 150 families in Goma with the resources and training needed to grow fast-yielding, nutritious vegetables right at home. Each household will receive starter kits including seeds (cabbage, spinach, onion), basic gardening tools, and access to practical training sessions. These sessions—led by local experts—will cover sustainable farming techniques such as crop rotation, organic pest control, and water conservation.

This initiative will not only nourish families but also serve as a replicable model of self-reliance and resilience in post-conflict regions.

Transparency Promise

We pledge to uphold the highest standards of transparency and accountability. Every contribution will be diligently tracked, with regular updates on our progress and detailed reports on how your donations are making a difference.
