Donate to Bethesda Child Support Foundation & Fund The SHE Reads Initiative in Rural Nigeria
Bethesda Child Support Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organization based in Nigeria, has been dedicated to helping the less privileged by providing scholarships to disadvantaged children and establishing free tuition schools in impoverished communities. Since our incorporation in 2011, we have empowered over 10,000 alumni across our six schools in Lagos, Ogun, and Ondo States. Our latest initiative, SHE Reads, is a response to the alarming literacy gap among young women in rural Nigeria.
We aim to raise $5,000 to support this crucial program.
The Challenges
Nigeria faces a significant educational crisis, with 18.5 million out-of-school children, over 60% of whom are girls (UNICEF, 2022). In rural areas, one in three young women cannot read or write. This translates to nearly 5 million young women between 15 and 24 years old who lack basic literacy skills.
To combat this, we launched the SHE Reads initiative—a comprehensive, one-year literacy program designed to equip 5,000 out-of-school young women aged 15-25 with the skills to read and write by 2029.
Why It Matters
The funds raised will be crucial in providing the necessary resources for the SHE Reads program. This includes purchasing stationery, chairs, tables, and boards, securing a venue, and covering the costs of monitoring and evaluation. Additionally, we will use the funds for profiling the beneficiaries, training facilitators, and conducting health intervention programs to ensure a holistic approach to their education.
This initiative is not just about teaching literacy; it’s about breaking the cycle of poverty and empowering these young women to create a brighter future for themselves and their communities.
