Girls and children around the world face many challenges, including poverty, gender-based violence, and limited access to education and healthcare. At Upward Motion, we believe that every girl and child deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential, regardless of their background or circumstances. This is why we are committed to creating enabling environments for girls through our skills training and mentorship programs and creating conducive learning environments for children in rural communities to give them access to quality education. Together, we can create a world where every girl and child has the chance to succeed and reach their full potential.

Our programs include:

  • Girls' Club Project: An empowerment initiative geared towards changing young girls' mindsets and building self-confidence.
  • Girls' Future Initiative: Providing educational support and skills training to junior high school girls, school drop-outs, and teenage mothers.
  • Girls Inspiring Girls: A one-day event aimed at inspiring and opening young girls from rural areas to opportunities beyond their communities.

The Challenges

In many rural communities in the Effutu Municipality, Winneba, several challenges severely impact the lives of young girls, leading to high incidences of teenage pregnancy and school dropouts. Due to poverty, many families are unable to provide the basic necessities and educational support for their children, forcing young girls to fend for themselves, often leading to unhealthy activities to seek financial support.

Child neglect is another challenge faced by girls in these communities. Many parents prioritize appearances for social events over their children’s wellbeing. This lack of parental support and guidance leaves girls vulnerable and on their own, which is critical during their developmental teenage years. These circumstances contribute to a high rate of teenage pregnancies. Many young girls are lured by men who promise financial assistance in exchange for sexual activities, resulting in unwanted pregnancies. Often, these men abandon the girls, leaving them to care for the children alone.

Furthermore, there are high incidences of school dropouts. Most girls cannot complete basic school due to financial difficulties, and those who manage to finish basic school cannot continue to senior high school. These girls lack access to opportunities that could help them build confidence and aspire to a better future.

Why It Matters

Funds raised will help implement various support programs. For instance, bursary items can be purchased to support about 30 girls in attending senior high school. Some of the funds will be channeled towards mentoring programs designed for these girls in rural communities, including skills training projects and digital literacy.

Your support can transform lives and create a brighter future for these girls. Join us in empowering the next generation of leaders in Winneba, Ghana. Thank you for your generosity and commitment to making a difference.

The Solution

Several projects have been designed to address the issues faced by these girls:

  • Girls’ Club Project: Aims to empower at least 1,000 young girls annually with soft and technical skills to build confidence, leadership, and essential skills in and beyond the classroom, reducing teenage pregnancy.
  • Girls’ Future Initiative: Supports junior high school girls, junior high graduates, senior high school graduates, and teenage mothers with educational support and essential vocational and digital skills. It promotes access to opportunities to give them the tools necessary to advance their future and encourage them to reach for the top.
  • Girls Inspiring Girls: Aims to inspire young girls from rural areas, provide exposure to opportunities beyond their communities, and promote career guidance. It fosters personal development through incorporating leadership, entrepreneurship, and life skills into the curriculum. Our goal is to develop a sustainable model through community engagement, partnerships, and continuous funding efforts.

Transparency Promise

We pledge to uphold the highest standards of transparency and accountability. Every contribution will be diligently tracked, with regular updates on our progress and detailed reports on how your donations are making a difference.
